# Credit union eligibility checker

Almost everyone in the United States is eligible to join at least one credit union. Answer the five questions below to see which path to membership fits you.

Use the tool on the [web page](https://creditunions.fyi/tools/credit-union-eligibility). It works without JavaScript.

## How to use it

1. Enter do you live, work, worship or study in an area served by a community-charter credit union?.
2. Enter does your employer, school or occupation have a credit union?.
3. Enter do you belong to a church, union, club or association with a credit union?.
4. Enter is an immediate family or household member already in a credit union?.
5. Enter are you willing to join a low-cost association the credit union accepts?.
6. Read the result.

## How it works

The tool asks the five standard paths to credit union membership: a community charter's area, an employer or occupational common bond, an association or church, a family or household member who is already a member, and joining an association the credit union accepts.

Any 'yes' on the first four means at least one direct path exists. A 'yes' only on the last means membership is likely available through a paid association. All 'no' answers mean none of the common paths applies — the directory's per-listing field of membership may still reveal one.

This tool does not decide eligibility. The credit union does, under its own charter. The figures and fields shown on listings come from the NCUA call report data.

> This is a guide, not a determination of eligibility or financial advice. The credit union decides who may join.

## Questions

### Does this tool guarantee I can join?

No. It points you at the usual paths to membership. The credit union decides eligibility under its own charter — always confirm with them.

### What if my employer or association has no credit union?

Community charters serve everyone in their area, and many credit unions admit members through an association anyone can join for a small fee. Very few people have no path at all.

> **Not financial advice.** CreditUnions lists federally insured credit unions and the data they file with the NCUA. It is not financial advice and a listing is not a recommendation. Figures come from the most recent quarterly call report and were last checked on the date shown on each listing; they change, so confirm everything with the credit union before you join.
